It is a Spanish consumer cooperative engaged in commercial distribution of goods and other products. The company was founded in 1975 in Valencia with 600 consuming partners/members. It has its head office in Silla, Spain. It is one of the largest cooperative in the Spain with a commercial network composed of more than 490 supermarkets, which operates under the name Consum, Consum Basic and Charter. These network of supermarkets offer a variety of grocery and household items and are located mainly in the following areas: Silla, Ribarroja and Quart de Poblet, Valencia; El Prat in Barcelona, and Torre Cotillas in Murcia. In 1990, the company as a founding partner of Eroski constituted the Eroski Group, the largest Spanish-owned retail food chain and the fourth largest retail group in Spain whose stores are named either Eroski or Consum. The company's mission is to distribute high consumption products and services to obtain profits in order to achieve a wealth-generating growth, to distribute these profits in a framework of shareholder cooperation and participation, to commit in defending the consumer and to contribute to the improvement of the community in which the company operates.
